Salvador Dalí Area

Salvador Dalí Area

We have three Dalí museums in the province of Girona—in Figueres, Cadaqués, and Púbol—known as the Dalí Triangle, named after the location of each museum forming a triangle on the map.

Figueres, the capital of the Alt Empordà region, is a cultural destination for most visitors to the province, as it is home to the Dalí Theatre-Museum, one of the most visited museums in Spain and undoubtedly a cultural treasure for this small city near the French border.

Cadaqués, in the Portlligat cove, is home to the Gala-Dalí House-Museum, the only residence where the artist lived with his wife Gala until almost the end of his life. It is very difficult to book, so if you wish to visit, it is advisable to reserve several days in advance.

Púbol is where the Gala Castle-Museum is located, a medieval building that Salvador Dalí gave to his wife Gala and personally decorated and painted for her.

Volcanic Area of Garrotxa

Volcanic Area of Garrotxa

It is the most important volcanic area in the Iberian Peninsula, with more than 40 inactive volcanoes, located just 60 minutes from Girona.
If you are looking for nature, hiking, and outdoor activities, it is one of the best options. Towns such as Besalú or Santa Pau reveal another type of medieval village, with sections built using basalt stone.

Between Girona and this area you will find Catalonia’s largest lake, Lake Banyoles, which is well worth a stop for a walk or a boat ride.
